I’m always excited to hear about large corporations finding new and creative ways to use language services.
News from Disneyland this week tells of their decision to provide sign language interpreters to those visiting the park. Not only will this increase awareness of the needs of those who don’t speak English as a first language, it also adds credibility to what I tell business owners every day in trying to promote the use of interpreters and translators: It’s a way to differentiate yourself from your competition; it increases the size of the market you can offer products and services to (more revenue); and it helps position your business as progressive and culturally responsible.
Disney is known for doing things the right way, and I would argue they have done it again. Will Six Flags follow in their footsteps? Only time will tell.
